Yesterday's Waste Paper

Image found in an old penny dreadful. Poole's is apparently on the site of Dickens's 'Old Curiosity Shop.'

  1. This reminds me of something I hadn't thought of in years. When I was a kid, 19th-century books were fairly common in junk (now thrift) stores. Frequently their spines were ripped open. On many books the inside of the spine was lined with leftover pages from some other book. I was fascinated with these glimpses of books I would never see.
